HSV and HDT cars are performance vehicles, built for people who want more from their cars than just transport. So it’s no surprise that Motorsport is one of the main attractions of our club. Almost since its inception in 1986, the HSV Owners Club of Victoria (Inc HDT) has built an enviable reputation for hosting and participating in motorsport events that are challenging, competitive, fun and safe.
During the course of any year, the club hosts about six events involving other performance car clubs. These normally occur at Sandown and Winton, with additional events taking place at Phillip Island. Usually, these events are made up of practice laps, timed laps and super sprint events. Results are published in the club magazine and on this website. Trophies are presented at the next club general meeting.
Participants accumulate points during the year’s events, and the Class Winner and Runners Up are given trophies at the November general meeting. These trophies are usually presented by a motorsport identity.
If you’ve never participated in motorsport before but wouldn’t mind giving it a go, come and talk to one of us at the next general meeting, and we’ll help you in any way we can. Our primary concerns are safety and fun, and we’ll encourage you to take training if you’ve not had any, and help you put that training into practice. Remember, we all started somewhere.
If you’re not necessarily into fanging around a track at high speed, but love the excitement of motorsport, you are very welcome to come and be a spectator. Or you could even help out by being a flaggie or doing any one of a number of jobs on the day. It’s a lot of fun, and if you’re new to the club or motorsport, it’s a great way of meeting new people.
So get into it, either by competing on the track, or by joining the many officials who make the events run smoothly, flagging on a corner, working in the timing tower, or as a member of the Motorsport Subcommittee.
